Bookkeeping Program Associate

Classification: Regular, non-exempt, 15 hours per week with potential to increase.
Compensation: Hourly rate DOE.

Summary: This position serves as a bookkeeper under ESC’s Financial Recordkeeping Services program. The Program Associate will be responsible for providing bookkeeping services to small and medium sized non-profits in the Puget Sound area. ESC’s Program Manager assigns individual Program Associates to clients, monitors bookkeeper performance, and provides general support to bookkeepers. All Program Associates have regular access to an experienced CPA who can assist with challenging problems or answer difficult questions.

Responsibilities

  • Assures compliance of client organizations with tax and reporting requirements.
  • Records regular transactions including payments and receipts.
  • Processes payroll including tax payments and reporting.
  • Produces financial statements, budgets, and other financial documents.
  • Reconciles accounts.
  • Prepare bank deposits using QuickBooks.
  • Maintains effective systems of controls to account for all receipts and expenditure of funds.

Required Qualifications

Evidence of the individual’s ability to be successful in this position include the following:
  • 2-3 years of bookkeeping experience with nonprofit organizations.
  • Expert knowledge of QuickBooks 2007 or later and Excel 2003 or later.
  • Experience managing and processing payroll including tax withholding and reporting.
  • Intermediate knowledge of accounting concepts.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • A history of stable employment, low absenteeism, and achievement in personal endeavors as well as in the workplace.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
