The Coaching Process

The first step to working with ESC is completing the online RFA form. From there, the ESC coaching program manager will walk you through each stage of your project. Everything we do under the Project Planning header is free of charge, and at no time are you under any obligation to contract with ESC for services.

Project Planning

After reviewing your RFA form, the ESC coaching program manager will call you to find out more about your needs and to explain how coaching works. We will also be able to quote you an hourly rate for services.

If you decide after this initial converation that working with ESC will be helpful for your organization, the program manager will identify several coaches that seem like a good fit your your needs and personality. In-person meetings will be scheduled so that you can meet each coach to learn more about their background and coaching style, and for the coaches to learn more about your goals and current situation. After interviewing all of the coaches, you can either choose one to work with, or, if you feel that none of the identified coaches were good match for you, ask the program manager to set up additional interviews with other coaches. Please note that both you and the prospective coach must agree to an engagement - you will not be assigned to the coach of your choice if he or she does not also feel that it is a good match.

Once you have selected a coach, the program manager will send you a draft Coaching Agreement to review. This agreement will detail all of the information that you will have discussed previously with the program manager about the nature of the coaching engagement and the logistical details. The agreement will also include the total fee for the engagement. (Please see the Service Grants & Fees section for more information on how ESC charges for services.)

Coaching Engagement

This covers the time from your first coaching session to the last. (The initial interview is not considered part of the coaching process, and is free of charge.) Coaching engagements typically include fifteen contact hours over a six-month period. Sessions may be done in person or over the phone. During the first session your coach will ask you to complete an intake questionnaire in order to help identify the issues and areas that you want to focus on in your sessions. This questionnaire will be repeated halfway through the engagement and upon completion of the engagement.

Project Evaluation

ESC requires evaluations to be completed for all of our coaching projects. Your feedback is essential in order for us to improve our programs and better serve the community. When your engagement is finished, you will complete the coaching questionnaire one last time, and receive an email with instructions on completing a general project evaluation survey.
