A Resource for Nonprofits. A Partner for Philanthropy.

Flooding, utility outages, the flu, an earthquake…we all know that having an emergency plan is a good thing. Planning also helps your organization prepare for sudden staff changes, funding ups and downs, and everyday disruptions. But most nonprofits don't have a plan or have only a partial plan. What is standing in our way?
Lack of time. Emergency plans take time to prepare.
Prepare/Respond/Serve, or PRS, removes that barrier by providing consultants who arrange and facilitate planning meetings, take the notes, write up the plan, help you prepare Go-kits, make arrangements with partners, and get you to the finish line. For most projects, the consultants provide 40 - 80 hours of assistance, dramatically lowering the staff time needed to get a plan in place.
The PRS assessment measures 46 elements of preparedness, asking you to choose the description that best describes your organization. Take our PRS Mini-Assessment to see how your organization can benefit from PRS. For more detailed program information download the PRS flier.
You can see the impact of planning in the before and after scores of the 16 organizations funded in 2009-10 by United Way of King County.
The PRS Guide, a simple nonprofit version of the guide FEMA prepared for businesses, walks you through the planning process and helps you gather information.
We buy insurance for protection when something bad happens. Emergency plans are just as important and can make the difference between surviving an emergency and having to close your doors because the emergency has overwhelmed the organization.
